The first Photo Shootout was held in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 2010, and has grown dramatically from its start. Now in its fifth year, it attracts photographers from across North America and even a few international shutterbugs. It appeals to a broad range of photography enthusiasts, from amateurs to professionals, offering workshops and events suited to a wide range of photography interests and levels.

The Photo Shootouts are organized and run by Outdoor Photo Workshops (OPW), www.OutdoorPhotoWorkshops.com, a well respected leader in professional photography instruction. OPW partners with schools, businesses, and photography clubs to mesh local resources with the expertise of a professional photography workshop leader. OPW’s event planner and instructors will coordinate all of the details for this one-of-a-kind event, making it a memorable experience for all. When asked about the Photo Shootout, Amy L., a participant, said, “Fantastic! It was a great time to meet others, learn some new skills and become a more inspired photographer. Thanks for the opportunity.”

Birds of Prey Workshop this weekend.

Really looking forward to this weekend’s Birds of Prey Workshop!  I often get asked which bird species is my favorite to photograph, so I spent the morning looking back through past pictures and trying to pick out my favorites.  After an hour, I am no closer to an answer then I was before, its just such a cool experience to see and photograph these birds up close that its tough to pick just one.  Here’s a shot, that’s in the top 10 or so, of an American Kestrel (female).  I really enjoy seeing the kestrels, they have a lot of personality and really beautiful markings.

We still have a few spots left so if you are interested make sure you don’t miss out!   http://outdoorphotoworkshops.com/zen-cart/photo-workshops/birds-of-prey-nature-photography-workshop

No Black Friday or Cyber Monday…Only Giving Tuesday!

This year we chose NOT to participate in Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Stuffed with Turkey Sunday or Cyber Monday.   Why?  Because we heard about Giving Tuesday and liked that better!  We are nature photographers and we are in nature every day, so we want to give back to Mother Nature this year.  For each person that registers for a photo workshop today, we will plant 10 trees in your name through the Arbor Day Foundation.  You will receive a certificate from the Arbor Day Foundation to commemorate your workshop and your tree planting, and your name will be put on their Tree Registry (unless you would prefer to remain anonymous).  For each t-shirt you purchase, one tree will be planted (no certificate or registry as it will be combined with other people unless you purchase 10).  For your generosity to nature, you will also receive a Pixel Pocket Rocket memory card holder from ThinkTank Photo when you arrive at your workshop.

Arbor Day Foundation LogoOn this Giving Tuesday, please help us replenish the wonderful forests that we all love to spend so much time photographing!  And because we are in the spirit of the season, we will honor this Giving Tuesday all the way through Friday, December 6, 2013.

Click here to see all of the workshops offered by Outdoor Photo Workshops!

If you register for your workshop online, please let us know which forest you would like your trees planted in by writing it in the comment box.   If you do not specify a forest, we will choose one for you.   You can choose to have your trees planted in Superior National Forest in Minnesota or Blackwater River State Forest in Florida.
